Founder's Cup
The 2006 Founder's Cup competition took place this past weekend at the Virginia Equine Extravaganza in Richmond, Virginia. The six top finishing Advanced Pairs from Eastern Championships were invited to participate, and four teams were able to make the trip, although one team had to withdraw at the last minute due to a member's illness. Since the competition was also an exhibition to promote the sport of Mounted Games, a last minute substitution of another pair was added, although they rode HC. Riders in this competition were given the opportunity by the organizers of the VEE to ride in clinics with well known figures from the horse world, such as Stephen Bradley, Julie Goodnight and Ginger Ryals. They were also given free admission to a two hour equestrian show, Equus Extraordinaire, which included carriage racing and two enormous Brahma bulls doing tricks! Stabling fees and the cost of ribbons were covered by MGAA, prizes for each rider were donated by Mr. Frank Horn, Chair, USPC Games Committee. Thank you also to Nancy Lindamood who gratiously donated the Founder's Cup trophy. Riders played 23 games over the two days of the competition - results were as follows -
Hopefully some of you were able to watch the webcast of the finals on Sunday. This was a great opportunity to promote our sport - many people who stopped by the booth had never heard of Mounted Games and were fascinated by the videos and the competition. We hope to be able to offer the same type of opportunity to Advanced Pairs from National Championships next year, although this facility can realistically only accommodate four or five pairs, not six.
