MGAA often include one or more of the games listed below. Our members have found them fun and challenging. If you have any questions about the rules or equipment used for any of these games, please contact us.

Equipment for each team: 

  • Hi-Lo stand
  • Pole consisting of a 1-gallon can filled with cement with plastic pipe inserted in the middle (total height 4’6”)
  • Approx. 3 ½ inch nerf type baseball and nerf type oversized bat 20 inches long
  • Standard size polocrosse ball and racket
  • Approx. 5-inch rubber basketball, and
  • Approx. 5-inch rubber football.

Setup:

  • Place 6 yds behind changeover end; the Hi-Lo stand pole and the pole in cement & space the poles.  These two poles are placed six feet apart.
  • The polocrosse ball is placed in line with the first line of bending poles in between the lanes.
  • Rider one starts with the baseball bat, rider two starts with the polocrosse racket, rider three starts with the basketball and rider four starts with the football.

Games Play:

  • Rider one rides across the changeover end and bats the baseball off the pole while mounted and rides back to the finish line.  Pole must remain upright.
  • Rider two rides up to the polocrosse ball and scoops up the ball, continues to ride with the ball in the racket crosses the changeover line, bounces or throws the ball through the two poles while mounted and then rides back to the finish line. Poles must remain upright.
  • Rider three rides across changeover end and dunks the basketball in the Hi-Lo net while mounted or unmounted and rides back to the finish line.  Poles must remain upright.
  • Rider four rides across changeover end and passes (throws) the football through the two poles while mounted and rides back to the finish line.

Equipment for each team:

  • one letter box
  • 4 large coins
  • 4 folded newspapers
  • large bin

Setup:

  • Line A is the start and finish line.
  • On the centre line there will be a letter box about 4 feet (1.22m) high for each team, and
  • At the far end a newspaper stand with a paper boy (the fifth member of each team, dismounted) behind it.

Games Play:

  • On the signal to start Number 1 will gallop forward carrying a folded newspaper and a large token coin.
  • On reaching the letterbox he will push his paper through it (not pulling it from the other side), before galloping on to purchase (hand over the coin) another newspaper from the paper boy, who must remain behind the stand (bin).
  • He will then return to the start line and hand this paper to Number 2.
  • Numbers 2, 3 & 4 (who each have a token coin) will repeat the procedure, Number 4 finishing over the line holding a newspaper, while the paper boy holds up the four coins.
  • If a newspaper or coin is dropped, or letter box or stand is knocked over, the rider must reset all games equipment before continuing. He may do this mounted or unmounted.. At the newspaper stand either the rider or the paper boy may pick up any fallen article, but the rider may not start back until this has been done.

Equipment for each team:

  • Four 18 “ Cones
  • Five Tennis Balls
  • One 3-gallon bucket, half full of water

Setup:

  • Four cones placed in a square, 2 yards behind Line C.  Each side of square 1 yd in length, one cone at each corner.
  • Bucket half full of water placed on Line B with four tennis balls floating in the water.
  • One tennis ball given to first rider.

Games Play:

  • Rider One rides down to square formed of cones and places tennis ball on top of one cone, then rides back and takes a tennis ball from the water bucket. Dismounting is not required. 
  • Ball is handed off to rider two, who repeats the same steps. 
  • The last Rider finishes with 5th ball in hand.
  • Team that wins has all cones standing with a tennis ball on each cone, bucket upright at Line B, and first over the line with last ball in hand.

Rules

An Attempt Must Be Made To Place Ball On Cone While Mounted.  Cones Knocked Over Must Be Uprighted And Balls Replaced.  If Ball Is Dropped While Attempting To Place It On A Cone Or Cones Knocked Over Correction May Be Made Unmounted.  Cones Must Be Replaced In Square Pattern Behind Line C. All Four Legs Of The Pony Must Cross Line C Before Returning To Line A.  Bucket Knocked Over Must Be Uprighted.  Loss Of Water Not Penalized.

Pairs Play

Rider One Begins With Ball, Places On Cone, Rides To Bucket, Takes Ball And Rides Back To Cones, Placing Second Ball On Cone.  Rides Back To Bucket, Takes Ball And Hands Off To Rider Two.  Rider Two Repeats And Finishes With Last Ball In Hand.

Individual Play

Game Set With Two Cones.  Rider Begins With Ball, Places On Cone, Takes Second Ball From Bucket, Places On Second Cone, Takes Last Ball From Bucket And Returns To Cross Line A 

Equipment for each team:

  • Four 18 “ Cones, and one Tall Cone, or 5 18” cones
  • Baton

Setup:

  • 2 cones six feet apart on the C Line.
  • 2 cones six feet apart 6 feet in front of the C line, directly in front of the other 2, to create a chute.
  • Tall cone or 5th 18” cone will be located 9 feet behind the C line, centered between the 2 cones on the C line.

Games Play:

  • Rider One with baton in hand, rides up the arena, passing between the 2 pairs of cones, circles around the single cone and passes back through the 2 pairs of cones, handing off the baton at the A line.
  • Riders 2, 3 and 4 complete the race in the same fashion, although rider 4 does not hand off the baton.
  • First team whose fourth rider crosses the A line first, baton in hand, wins.

Special Rules:

  • Cones knocked over must be reset.

Equipment for each team:

  • 2 Bins,
  • 1 plastic Margarita Glass (large),
  • 1 shallow plastic container with lid and margarita salt,
  • 2 eight oz plastic glasses (one marking fill line 1/2 way up with electrical tape),
  • 1 plastic pitcher with your choice of beverage

Setup:

  • One bin is on the center line, one bin is 3 yards beyond line C.
  • On top of the center line bin is one pitcher of beverage, one glass half full of ice, one empty glass (the one marked with electrical tape), one shallow container with some of the beverage poured in it and the container's lid with a layer of salt. 
  • Rider #5 is at the center bin ready to do the Margarita Mix when the race begins. 
  • Rider #1 is carrying the Margarita glass.

Games Play:

  • At the start of the race, Rider #1, carrying the empty Margarita glass, rides to the center line bin and hands the glass to Rider #5. Rider #5 dips the rim of the glass in the shallow container of beverage, then the salt, and returns the glass to Rider #1.  Rider #1 rides to the bin at Line C, places the Margarita glass upright on the bin, and returns to the start line.
  • Rider #2 rides to the Center Line bin where Rider #5 hands the rider the glass of ice.  Rider #2 riders to the Line C bin and pours the ice into the Margarita glass.  Rider #2 then returns the empty ice glass to Rider #5 and returns to the start line.
  • Rider #5 may fill the empty glass half-full of the beverage any time after the start of the race, but not before the race starts.  Rider #5 must fill the glass only to the half-way mark on the glass.
  • Rider #3 rides to the Center Line bin where Rider #5 hands the rider the glass half-filled with beverage.  Rider #3 carries the glass to the Line C bin and empties the glass into the Margarita glass. Rider #3 then returns the glass to Rider #5 and rides to the start line.
  • Rider #4 rides to the Line C bin, picks up the Margarita glass and carefully rides to Rider #5.  Rider #5 takes the Margarita glass and drinks the beverage.  Rider #5 must drink the entire beverage. After drinking the beverage, Rider #5 returns the empty Margarita glass to Rider #4 who rides to the finish line.  The winning team is the team whose Rider #4 crosses the finish line first carrying the empty Margarita glass.
  • Riders 1,2, and 3 must leave the Margarita glass upright on the bin at the completion of their games play. If the ice cubes are spilled, no need to put them back but the glass must be upright. If riders 3 or 4 spill the beverage, the glass must be returned to the Line C bin, then refilled with the beverage only from Rider #5. 

Equipment for each team:

  • Center Line Ring Hook,
  • End Line Hooks,
  • Nine 4" rubber rings.

Setup:

  • Line A is the start and finish line.
  • On the center line will be a standard bending pole, midway in the lane on which will be a hook facing the start.
  • Rider Number 5 will be 3 yards (2.74m.)
  • Beyond the changeover line holding a stand and on each of the four hooks there will be two, 4 inch (l0cm.) white, or brightly colored rings (these may be bound with electrical/plastic tape).
Games Play:
  • On the signal to start, Rider Number 1 carrying a ring will ride to the center hook and place it on that hook,
  • He will then continue to the changeover end and take two rings off the stand.
  • Returning to the center line, he will leave one ring on the hook and then go on to pass the second ring Rider Number 2 behind the start/finish line.
  • Rider Numbers 2, 3 & 4 then complete the course in exactly the same way in succession, with Rider Numbers 4 leaving both rings on the center hook before crossing the finish line.
  • The winning team is the one whose Rider Number 4 is first over the finish line with nine rings correctly placed on the center line hook.
  • If any rider knocks over any equipment, all equipment must be replaced before continuing the game.  The rider my correct equipment mounted or unmounted. Rider Number 5 may not lean the stand or give any form of assistance to the riders.
  • Rings dropped or dislodged from the stand must be picked up and replaced by the rider concerned, NOT Rider Number 5.

Equipment for each Team:

  • One 5-gallon bucket
  • One small feed type bucket
  • One bin
  • Three rubber ducks
  • One sack
  • One fake fur fox tail (Optional)

Setup:

  • A Line is the start and finish line
  • Place 5-gallon bucket half filled with water in the center of the lane at the second pole position. Place the three rubber ducks in the bucket.
  • Place the bin at the 2 yard mark outside of Line C
  • Place the small feed bucket half filled with water on the bin.
  • Give the sack and the white hat band with the fake fur fox tail to Rider #4.

Games Play:

  • Rider #1 rides to the 5-gallon bucket and retrieves a duck (mounted or unmounted). The rider continues to the bin, crossed Line C, places the duck in the feed bucket and then returns home.
  • Riders #2 and #3 complete the course in the same fashion.
  • Rider #4 also known as the fox rides to the bin, crosses Line C and removes all three ducks (mounted or unmounted) and places them in the sack.  The rider then returns to the finish line with the sack of rubber ducks.

Rules:

At any time, all riders may pick up ducks mounted or unmounted. All riders and ponies must have crossed Line C before putting ducks in the small feed bucket or removing them from the feed bucket. All ducks must be in the sack before Rider #4 crosses the Finish Line. The bin and all buckets must be upright and in their original starting position.

If a bucket is knocked over, the bucket must be reset and the ducks involved in the spill replaced in the bucket. If a duck falls out of the sack or is dropped by a rider, the rider must pick up the duck and continue the race from the point of the error.  All corrections may be made mounted or unmounted.

Equipment for each team:

  • Eight 6"x2"x4" wooden pegs,
  • One 4' sitck (litter stick),
  • One bin
Setup:
  • Line A is the start and finish line.
  • On Line C there will be a drum.
  • The eight (8) wooden blocks, standing on end, will be placed in two lines 6 feet apart in the center of this area at 6 foot centers, with the centers of the second and third blocks 3 feet on either side of Line B.  There will be 4 blocks in each line.

Games Play:

  • The first rider starts with stick held in right hand and rides down the left side of the lane.

  • The rider must knock down the first block in the left hand row with the stick; continue and make a  right hand turn around the end drum and return down the right side of the lane, knocking down the first block of that row with the stick.

  • The rider then continues to the starting end of the lane and passes the stick to the next rider, right hand to right hand.

  • All riders must complete the course in the same manner, knocking down two blocks ‑ each in their consecutive order.

  • The winning team is the one with the first #4 rider crossing the finishing line, stick in hand.

  • If a horse knocks down a block, the rider must replace it before continuing.

  • If a rider knocks down a wrong block, it must be replaced before continuing.

Equipment for each team:

  • bucket or cauldron
  • 28 inch cone
  • bin
  • potato
  • onion
  • turkey- made from a large feed sack with one bottom-side corner of the bag taped or tied to look like the head of the turkey
  • roadkill rubber chicken- can draw tire marks on body(optional)

Setup:

  • Line A is the start and finish line.
  • Bucket/cauldron- placed 2 yards beyond C line
  • Turkey is place on 28" cone behind bucket and looking over bucket/cauldron
  • Bin at B line
  • Roadkill chicken in between space in line with first poles.

Games Play:

  • First rider with potato or onion rides down to and ducks it in the bucket/cauldron.
  • Second rider with potato or onion rides down to and ducks it in the bucket.
  • Third rider rides down and picks up the turkey (saves) and then dunks (hides) it in the bin.
    The cone must remain upright after rescuing the turkey
    The turkey has to be completely in the bin, nothing hanging out, remember he's hiding!
  • Fourth rider rides to the roadkill chicken,  picks up the roadkill chicken dismounted, rides to the C line and dunks it in the bucket/cauldron.

  • Variation: a 5th rider can be added by having the first 3 riders dunk the potato/onions, 4th saves the turkey, 5th adds the roadkill chicken to the cauldron
