Mounted Games Across America Two Flag Race at IMGA Worlds

   history of mounted games

Mounted Games were first played in India by the British Army soldiers. However, many of their first games were played on camels and mules instead of horses. The returning military brought back the games to England where they became very popular with The Pony Club members. Prince Philip presented the first trophy cup for mounted games in 1957 to promote the sport amongst youngsters. From those beginnings, mounted games gained popularity and spread to the US and other countries.

On January 21, 1984, Norman Patrick of Great Britain started the Mounted Games Association for mounted games riders of all ages. MGA allowed riders who had graduated from Pony Club to continue playing and competing in mounted games with others from around the world.

Norman Patrick's vision for MGA:

"The object of the Association is to encourage friendship between young people of different nations."

Betty Jo Kiser (Maryland) and Nancy Lindamood (Virginia) took up the MGA banner for the United States shortly after MGA-GB was formed. The pair with the help of family and friends organized the USMGA, held competitions in the east coast states, and sent teams to IMGA competitions for many years. Nancy Lindamood is currently the director of United States Mounted Games, Inc.

Mounted Games Across America, Inc. (MGAA) was incorporated on January 2, 2004 by a group of games-crazy people to promote the sport of equestrian mounted games across America.
